Embodying Anew archives and contextualizes the 2021 exhibition by the same name which featured sculptural artworks by Dame Magdalene Odundo DBE, Simone Leigh and Thaddeus Mosley. In a review for Frieze, Vanessa Peterson described the exhibition as "like the wildest kind of jazz," explaining, "it is improvisation, syncopation, scholarship, care, attention, memory".
Designed by OK-RM this limited edition publication captures the spirit of the show and transcends its temporality, marking its position in history. The ephemera is comprised of a manilla DL envelope containing a silk screened colour sheet which wraps a die-stamped linen envelope. Inside is a series of offset reproductions featuring a bust by Simone Leigh, a sculpture by Thaddeus Mosley and three vessels by Magdalene Odundo with a hand-stamped colour photographic print of the installation and a booklet with an essay by Lauren DeLand, Professor of Art History at Savannah College of Art and Design.
Embodying Anew is the second in a series of publications by InOtherWords and Maximillian William, London.
